Cietkoks joins the CEforestry project: exploring new value in forest resources
At Cietkoks, we’ve always been proud of our deep roots in wood processing and forest-based manufacturing.
Our commitment to sustainability and long-term use of Latvia’s forest resources is what drives our work. That’s why we’re excited to be part of the CEforestry project – a forward-looking initiative focused on unlocking the untapped potential of forest residues.
What is CEforestry?
CEforestry is an international project supported by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme, bringing together researchers, businesses, and innovators from across the region. Its mission is simple but powerful: to transform forestry side-streams – like bark, sawdust, and thinnings – into high-value, eco-friendly products using modern biorefinery technologies and circular economy principles.

Why did Cietkoks get involved?
As a target group of CEforestry, Cietkoks represents a company that works directly with hardwood and forest biomass – and we know firsthand the challenges and opportunities that come with side-stream materials.
Joining CEforestry has given us the opportunity to:
- explore innovative uses for our own production residues
- collaborate with scientists and other regional businesses
- stay ahead of emerging markets in the bio-based product space
- strengthen our commitment to sustainability and circular manufacturing
Our team sees potential not just in selling high-quality wood products, but in developing new, greener product lines in the future.
Forest Bioeconomy: a growing opportunity
CEforestry market research shows fast-growing demand for forest-derived ingredients like tannins and natural adhesives – materials increasingly used in both traditional and innovative products. With global consumers shifting toward natural, plant-based, and sustainable goods, the project helps companies like ours understand:
• how to build a resilient, future-ready business model based on circular principles
• how to enter these new markets
• what technologies are available for upcycling forest residues

What’s Next?
Through CEforestry, Cietkoks will continue to explore:
- participation in expert discussions and pilot projects
- opportunities for R&D collaboration
- ways to bring science-based innovation into our daily operations
Forests are more than a resource – they are the future. We’re proud to represent Latvian woodworking expertise on an international platform and to move in step with Europe’s green transition goals.
